Illuminating films in which our common humanity is revealed
APRIL 27-29, 2007 / ROCKLAND MAINE
About Us
The International Film Festival of the Spirit brings
our communities into dialogue through exploring the artistic, spiritual,
and social dimensions of cinema. Showcasing award winning first-run and
repertory films from cultures around the world, IFFS illuminates cinema
in which creative visions are shared, diverse viewpoints are expressed,
and our common humanity is revealed.
The idea for a spiritual film festival in the Mid-Coast of Maine began
as a conversation in 2002 between Steve Donoso and Joseph Kulin,
founding publisher (now retired) of PARABOLA magazine . The first
festival, under Parabola’s “Cinema of the Spirit” banner, took place in
2003 with a performance and a dozen films at the Rockland Library and
the Farnsworth Art Musuem. In 2004 the second festival took place at the
Camden Opera House, Avena Institute, and the Rockland Library featuring
a concert of music from India and ten films. The third festival was held
at The Strand Theatre with thirteen films, performances and spiritual
dialogue. This year brings us full circle with 11 award winning films
and one performance at the Rockland Library and the closing festival
film on Sunday April 29 at the Strand Theatre.
Please contact us if you are interested in helping organize
the festival.
